The covered-model policy does not cancel every zero-data-retention arrangement. Other models and certain eligible organizations remain subject to different terms. Safety retention does not itself grant training permission.
The detail lives below the enterprise headline
Anthropic’s covered-model policy describes 30-day retention for prompts and outputs used with designated models. Its scope includes certain organizations otherwise configured for zero data retention, with model, workspace, platform, and eligibility distinctions.
The policy says other models remain under their existing terms and identifies exceptions for eligible organizations notified separately. It also describes controlled review and deletion, with safety and legal exceptions. These details matter more than a general label such as enterprise.
Buy the arrangement you actually need
A security review should identify the model or service being used, the workspace configuration, the data location, the retention trigger, and the governing contract. A promise that applies to one configuration should not silently become an assumption about another.
- Name the exact service and deployment configuration in your requirements.
- Ask whether policy updates or model changes alter retention obligations.
- Keep the decision, exceptions, and contract references available to the team.
A PRACTICAL THADDEUS WORKFLOW
Turn policy reading into a shared decision record.
Use Deep Research to inspect source policies and Collab to give colleagues the same requirements, open questions, and task ownership. Preserve the resulting review in the project so future configuration changes can be checked against it.

Build a procurement checklist from these public policies. Separate model-specific rules, workspace settings, retention periods, exceptions, and contractual questions. Assign unresolved questions to our named reviewers without assuming an answer.
A research summary is not a binding interpretation of a vendor contract. Thaddeus does not offer a universal retention guarantee through this workflow. Obtain the written commitments your organization requires.
